News
from
the
Broadmoor
Gang
Last
month,
Mike
and
Dwayne
escaped
some
of
the
winter
weather
and
boarded
Liberty
of
the
Seas,
a
Royal
Caribbean
cruise
ship,
in
Miami,
FL,
and
set
sail
for
a
week.
This
was
Atlantis
Event’s
largest
cruise
vacation
with
ports
of
call
in
Labadee;
Georgetown
in
the
Grand
Cayman
Islands;
and
Cozumel,
Mexico.

While
in
Labadee,
Haiti,
both
Mike
and
Dwayne
rode
the
Zip
line.
Rosanne
Barr
was
the
special
guest
entertainer.
Their
favorite
entertainment
on
the
ship
once
again
was
Miss
Richfield
1981
and
Cashetta
(the
drag
magician
they
saw
in
Las
Vegas
last
year).
They
also
spent
a
lot
of
time
enjoying
the
sun,
warmth
and
reading.
When
the
ship
docked
in
Cozumel,
they
spent
the
day
walking,
shopping
and
enjoying
the
island.

Saturday
night
before
they
boarded
the
ship,
they
had
a
fabulous
dinner
with
Dwayne’s
Aunt
Babs,
cousin
Wendy
and
a
friend,
Alice.
They
dined
at
Gotham
Steak
at
Fontainebleau
Miami.
A
week
later,
when
they
got
off
the
ship,
they
met
this
group
again
for
brunch
at
the
Rusty
Pelican
on
Biscayne
Bay.
While
in
Miami,
Mike
and
Dwayne
also
had
a
fantastic
dinner
at
D.
Rodriguez
Restaurant
in
the
Hotel
Astor.
The
Hotel
Astor
is
an
Art
Deco
gem
and
renovated
boutique
hotel
in
the
heart
of
South
Beach.
Unique
features
such
as
the
original
1936
Vitrolite
wall
panels
blend
with
contemporary
style
and
elegance
to
provide
guests
with
an
intimate
retreat.
(D.
Rodriguez,
the
chef/owner,
also
has
Alma
De
Cuba
in
Philadelphia,
which
is
one
of
Mike
and
Dwayne’s
favorite
restaurants.
When
the
waiter
in
Miami
found
out
they
were
frequent
diners
at
Alma,
he
brought
Chef
Rodriguez
out
to
visit
with
Mike
The
day
before
they
went
on
the
cruise,
Dwayne
and
Mike
had
haircuts
scheduled
in
Philadelphia.
Joining
them
on
the
outing
was
Linda
Brewer.
After
their
appointments,
they
went
to
dinner
at
Barclay
Prime.
Althea
Fejes
and
her
daughters,
Jess
and
Steph,
joined
them
for
dinner.
Jess
had
an
interview
the
following
day
at
the
School
of
Veterinary
Medicine
at
the
University
of
Pennsylvania.
Jess
took
the
train
down
to
Phila
from
Boston,
and
Steph
was
home
during
semester
break
from
Parsons,
so
she
and
Althea
drove
to
the
city
from
Maryland.
While
Jess
was
tied
up
at
UPenn
with
tours
and
interviews,
Althea
and
Steph
shopped
and
visited
the
Liberty
Bell.
The
family
got
together
for
dinner
and
one
more
night
in
the
city,
before
heading
on.
Shortly
thereafter,
I
read
a
post
on
Facebook
that
Jess
was
accepted.
Congrats
Jess
and
best
of
luck
pursuing
your
next
goal
in
life.
History
notes
that
it
seldom
snows
in
Alabama.
It
appears
as
though
this
year
was
the
exception,
as
shown
in
the
following
snapshots
of
Patrick
Scarborough
and
Nomads
Sakima
Too
Hot

enjoying
refreshing
walks
through
their
snowy
neighborhood.

About
the
same
time,
Cindy
Nord
and
her
friend,
Rose,
were
off
to
vacation
in
another
part
of
the
world
--the
Galapagos
Islands,
which
are
located
in
the
Pacific
Ocean
about
600
miles
from
the
coast
of
Ecuador.
Earlier
this
month,
the
Germ
family
spent
a
week
enjoying
winter
sports
in
South
Tyrol,
Italy.
They
stayed
at
Hotel
Albric
in
Plan
De
Gralba
with
two
other
families.
They
enjoyed
snow
boarding
most
mornings,
and
freestyle
and
offpist
skiing
in
the
afternoons.

The
first
weekend
in
February,
Mike
was
a
clinician
at
the
New
England
Morgan
Horse
Association’s
Winter
Convention,
held
at
KGA
Morgans
in
Mendon,
MA.
Mike’s
part
of
the
clinic
was
on
starting
a
horse
in a
full
bridle,
and
he
worked
with
one
horse
and
rider.

During
the
New
England
Morgan
Horse
Association
Winter
Convention,
Mike
discussed
starting
a
horse
in a
full
bridle
during
the
clinic
and
demonstrations
at
KGA
Morgans.

Last
spring,
Valerie
Low
came
to
Broadmoor
to
interview
Mike
for
her
series
of
historic
profiles.
These
profiles,
including
the
one
about
Mike,
can

Then
Mike
was
off
to
Lexington,
KY
to
attend
the
AMHA
Convention.
He
was
also
looking
forward
to
spending
time
with
Jane
Bennett
at
her
family’s
farm,
Undulata,
in
Shelbyville.
Jane
will
be
at
Broadmoor
at
the
end
of
the
month
helping
our
amateurs
get
ready
for
this
year’s
show
season.
